We are all very excited that work will start next week on our kitchen improvements paid for by The National Lottery Community Fund . The ovens and hobs will move to a better location away from the entrance and the work tops will be upgraded to stainless steel. Sue, our catering manager, is looking forward to this refurbishment but in the meantime she has the challenge of creative catering with limited facilities!
Anne & Sue were pleased to attend the Mayor of Kenilworth's Charity Murder Mystery Evening held at St Francis of Assisi Church. Sue won a prize for her 1920s themed outfit. All proceeds will go to Waverley as the Mayor's charity.
We enjoyed a skittles afternoon.
We were treated to some traditional Welsh music by two young harpists who are related to one of our club members. They provided a musical interlude whilst we had our morning tea and coffee.
Anne has become a Melvin Jones Fellow. The fellowship is in recognition of her long service to Kenilworth through her work at Waverley (over more than 25 years). Kenilworth Lions nominated Anne for this award from Lions Club International..
Our AGM was held on Tuesday 9th July. The Kenilworth Town Mayor, Alan Chalmers, joined us and said a few words about the value of Waverley to the local community. We have been chosen as one of his mayoral charities. Alan is pictures with Anne, Waverley Manager, and Sue, Chair of Trustees.
Anne had the pleasure of joining Steve Luff, Lions President and the Town Mayor and Mayoress to open the LIons Grand Show last Saturday. They arrived in style in a cavalcade of classic cars.
The sun shone for us and the Waverley stall raised £650.
We were very please to have some extra support over half term. Sadie held a cake sale supported by her family and neighbours. She raised an impressive £180 for Waverley. Amy volunteered a day of her time. She is pictured here serving lunch with Sue our cook.
We are pleased to announce the launch of our charity cards to raise funds for Waverley. Designs are from original paintings by John Straw , a Kenilworth resident and our first print run has been sponsored by Emmerson Press. The cards are available to purchase from Waverley Day Centre and will also be sold at local events such as the Lions Grand Show in June. The members have enjoyed helping with sorting and packing.
We raised a flag for England and St George.

The Kenilworth Town Mayor, Alix Dearing, joined us last week for a coffee and a chat wiith our members.
Sue treated us to a Scottish themed lunch including haggis, neeps, tatties and cranachan.
We were joined by The High Sheriff of Warwickshire, Sophie Hilleary, in her full regalia. She joined us for coffee and met our members, staff and volunteers.

We raised £757 at the Christmas tombola. People were very supportive and many gave donations as well as buying tickets. Thanks to Jean for organising this and to all her family for their support. Thank you to the Manager and Staff at Robert Dyas for allowing us to set up outside their store.

Several members were very please to receive a visit from Paddy wearing his Christmas jumper. He came with his owner Nicky, Sue's daughter. They both dropped in to say hello.
We have been working off some of those delicious Christmas calories with a game or two of table tennis.

The Christmas jumpers are coming out and Sue is busy in the kitchen. Our first Christmas lunch took place yesterday. We were joined by the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Alan Chalmers who chatted to everyone and even helped to serve the lunch.
We spent an enjoyable session stone painting last week hosted by Caroline. There were some very detailed designs created.
We have decorated our tree with flowers in Waverley colours.

Everyone was entering into the Halloween spirit this week. Staff and members enjoyed their day which included a Halloween themed lunch with sausages and pumpkin pie.
Thank you to A Bit of a Do in Warwick for their generous donation of a box of individually packaged biscuits. These will do very nicely with our morning teas and coffees!

Twenty of our volunteers gathered at the Clarendon Arms for the annual volunteers' lunch. Thank you to all those who give their time to Waverley.Richard and the team at the Clarendon looked after us very well.
A big thank you to Pete for a most enjoyable afternoon's entertainment. Pete played his ukulele and sang songs we all knew and could join in with.
Thanking college student Amy, for all her help. Hopefully she will be able to return to Waverley in September.
The minibus joined the carnival procession with staff walking alongside. We also had spectators watching from outside Waverley. The Carnival Queen and her entourage stopped and said hello to us.
We enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea in the grounds of Kenilworth Manor Nursing Home last week. Thank you to Joy, their activities organiser, for inviting us to join them. We are inviting the Manor to visit Waverley to watch the Carnival this Saturday.

The Deputy Mayor, Pippa Austin, joined last week.
We have held several Christmas lunches to ensure all our members can join us. We have also invited a variety of guests to join us for the festivities.
Our last day before Christmas will be Friday 23rd December. We will reopen on Tuesday 3rd January.
Jean, our fundraiser, will be running our annual Christmas tombola outside Robert Dyas this Saturday. Thank you to all those who have donated prizes and to the manager of Robert Dyas for allowing us to use the space. Please come along and support us.

We were pleased to take part in the display of trees at St Nicholas Church. Our theme was a "Waverley Corgi Christmas". The festival was well attended and our tree received some nice comments. Anyone still wishing to see our tree can view in our front window at 65 Waverley Road.
We observed our two minutes silence this morning. Mavis was remembering her relatives who died in the First World War.
We welcomed the entertainer, Peter, who played the ukulele for us last Wednesday. He can sometimes be seen busking in Talisman Square.
Roger gave a short presentation about his National Service which other members found most interesting.
Our annual quiz is took place on Thursday, 20th October at the Kenilworth Sports & Social Club. This was the first quiz for 3 years and was extremely well attended. We had to merge some teams so everyone had access to question and answer packs! The jokers added a random dimension and the three "marathon rounds" that could be completed throughout the evening kept teams occupied in between the question rounds. Thank you to our quizmaster, Barrie, for an excellent evening. Hope to see you all next year!
We have been keeping active with balloon exercises and dancing to songs from the entertainer, Trevor Santini. Trevor is visiting on a regular basis thanks to some generous donations to fund additional entertainment.
Thanks to Revival Cars for loaning us this classic vehicle. Members enjoyed this beautiful car when it was left with us for the day.
Peggy aged 98, is keeping up with modern technology supported by Alan, one of our carers.
Thank you to the men's and ladies' choirs for serenading us on a very warm afternoon and for the generous cheque that they presented to Waverley. The walled garden at Stoneleigh Abbey was a beautiful location for a lunchtime concert and picnic especially with the chairs, umbrellas and gazebos provided for everyone's comfort.
Our AGM was held on Tuesday 5th July. We celebrated our achievements over the past year and welcomed three new Trustees. Sadly we also had to say goodbye to our treasurer, Jeremy Eastaugh, after a maximum 9 years on the board.
A big thank you to Peter Robson who came to entertain us. We enjoyed a very chilled afternoon of music which was perfect for a warm day.
We have been making the most of our garden during the warmer temperatures this week.
On Sunday 12th June 2022 Julia Loftus took part in the Two Castles Run from Warwick Castle to Kenilworth Castle which is a 10 Kilometre race.
Julia completed her volunteering sections for Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh awards at Waverley, and continued her support by "raising some much needed funds for such a wonderful local charity".
Julia completed the race in 00:54:49 and raised a total of £824.

The Stoneleigh Ladies Choir performed for Waverley members and friends yesterday. We all enjoyed the singing and the opportunity to have live entertainment back at Waverley. The choir will be giving a charity concert later this summer - see details below.
Creative Mojo organised a crafting afternoon. We created two large jubilee posters one on a floral theme and the other showing some of the Queen's interests. These are now on display at Waverley

We will be holding our main Jubilee party on Wednesday 1st June but we will be also be celebrating on other days to ensure everyone is involved if they would like to be.

We now have a table football table and a magnetic dart board. Many of our members and staff are enjoying discovering hidden or forgotten talents. These items were purchased through a kind donation.
We are enjoying our exercise classes during this cold weather. It is keeping us warm and fit!
